Graeme Hughes is a printmaking graduate of the Royal College of Art, but his work occupies some hybrid niche between printmaking and painting. His most recent artworks push the predictable boundaries of printmaking and explore the place of the handmade in mechanically driven processes:

"It is essential for me that the hand is kept present in every stage of the working process. For me, the collision between imagination and the constraints of the practical aspects of making the prints is where interesting things, challenges, start to happen. Although the final works are technically described as prints, the approach I take in making them attempts to investigate this space where the lucidity of the painted and drawn mark meets the mechanical nature of printmaking itself. I see the works as objects, hybrids that are both paintings and prints".
