Richard Galloway collects moments of everyday life, peculiar happenings and bizarre situations. His haunts are East-End barbers, hard pubs, workers' cafes, busy bookies and, conversely, Selfridges, where he 'targets' the characters who compose the cast of his city life soap-operas: Hardmen, Hooligans, Psychopaths, Drunks, Prostitutes, Tramps, Old Bar Flies, annoying Pub Kids and old Make-Up Assistants. In Galloway's words:

"I need to feel the excitement and energy of the dog track or hear the laughs and feel the nervous anticipation and disappointment of hte casino halls. I try to exist both inside and outside of these situations, capturing the traits and moods of the people who dwell in these places in all their awkwardness, magnifying real life and creating new fictitious arenas. My observation has to be more accurate, more intense, more genuine than merely viewing something from a safe distance or hearing something by word of mouth. My regular presence within a space or community means I can become unthreatening and from here I can hear and see things which otherwise would go unnoticed. This investment in observation is critical, the more time I spend looking the more this otherwise obscure world of filth, desperation and tragedy unfolds. From here I can search out what other people choose to ignore. The risk of danger is always a threat: will I ull, find an amazing image, or get stabbed in the face?"
